Mother Rosa L. Smith was born June 20, 1923, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John (Alice) Curtis in New Castle, Alabama.
Mother Rosa was preceded in death by her husband William Smith, son Johnny R. Curtis, sister Ida Mae Wright and brothers John, Charles and Eugene Curtis.
She was educated in the Birmingham Public School System. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Eastern Star Baptist Church in New Castle, Alabama. After moving to Pulaski, Tennessee, she joined True Faith Outreach Church under the leadership of Bishop Gary Orr, where she served faithfully. She was employed at Pulaski Facility for the disabled. Later years she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, and joined St. Luke Spiritual Church under the leadership of Bishop Charles McNair. Later, she joined Old Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfonso January.
Mother Rosa leaves to cherish her memories: sister: Evangelist Rebecca Olive; brother: Wilburn Curtis.
Mother Rosa was loved by many, but was cherished by her children. One child preceded her in death: Johnny Roy Curtis, Sr. (Reverend Vivian Curtis), Laurel, Maryland; Devoted grandchildren: Johnny Roy Curtis, Jr. (Janetta), Bowie, Maryland, Lisa Griffin (Robin), Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Alice Boyd, Temple Hill, Maryland, Patrina Covington (Boyd), Landover, Maryland, Roger Younger (Pamela), Laurel, Maryland, James Younger (Caroletta), Lynchburg, Virginia, and James Coe, San Diego, California; Great-grandchildren: Jalea Curtis, Jhania and Emane Boyd, Whitney and Lamar Caldwell, Tamika Stanley, Marquis Younger and James Carpenter; friend: Mary Pleasant, and a host of other relatives and friends.
