Reverend Morris Smith was born on March 4, 1938, to the union of Mr. Eddie Smith and Mrs. Icy Moore–Smith in Marengo County, AL.
He confessed Christ at a young age. Reverend Smith attended Grambling University in Louisiana. In addition, he served as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army.
He married Irma Delores Hurst-Smith. To this union, nine children were born: Jonathan, Milton, Erryca, Diane, Aaron, Aylicia, Lynda, Iisha, and Alice.
Reverend Smith was multi-talented and multi-faceted as he worked hard to support his family through his multiple careers with The Birmingham Board of Education, Yellow Cab, and Security Engineering. He was an Associate Pastor at Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church and Elim Missionary Baptist Church (now known as Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church).
Reverend Morris Smith was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Eddie Smith; mother, Ms. Icy Moore-Smith; sister, Mrs. Lula Mae Mack; and, Mrs. Irma D. Hurst-Smith (The LOVE of His Life and wife).
He leaves to cherish his memories: Three sons – Rev. Jonathan (Sonya) Hurst, Rev. Milton (Jacquese) Smith, and Mr. Aaron Smith; Six daughters – Mrs. Erryca (Giovanno) Jones, Ms. Diane Smith, Mrs. Aylicia (Demetrius) Parker, Mrs. Lynda (Avery) Jordan, Mrs. Iisha (Winston) Davis, and Ms. Alice Smith; Twenty-two grandchildren – Mrs. Amber (Stephan) Hundley, Khristian Smith Matthews, Myan Smith, A’vian Reeves, Kiala Hurst Smith, Gabrielle Hurst, Frances Knight, Kamryn Knight, Da’ja Matthews, Kennedy Davis, Nia Davis, Sydney Knight, Amilyah Smith, Deborah Hurst, Alma Hurst, Alyssa Davis, Isabella Knight, Xavyer Jordan, Kamille Thomas, Zyon Jordan, Ya’ir Jordan, and Noah Parker; One Sister – Jean Davidson; One brother – Mr. Moses (Barbara) Smith; One aunt – Cecelia Travis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
