Richard Brison Obituary

Richard Brison was born May 9, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Mr. & Mrs. Jimmie Lee and Eliza Ryles Brison.

He confessed Christ and was baptized at Groveland Baptist Church at an early age and held membership there until he received his wings. He became an ordained Deacon in 1976, and served for many years as a trustee, treasurer, choir member and Sunday School teacher.

Some of his Masonic fraternal affiliations include Occidental Lodge #31, Knight Templars Persia Commandery #2, Khedive Temple Shriners #16, and Red Cross Consistory No. 2A.

Richard was educated in the Birmingham City Public School System. After graduating from Parker High School in 1958, he attended Miles College graduating in 1964, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. He went on to further his education at Alabama State University, receiving a Master of Education. Richard was an active member in his high school alumni and an active alumni and Lifetime Member of his Alma mater Miles College and Lifetime Alumni member at Alabama State. While attending Miles College, he met and was united in marriage to the late Richardene Gillon Brison and to this union, one daughter (Richette Denice) was born.

Richard was an educator, teaching high school math. He first started teaching in Marengo County Schools in Thomaston, AL. He retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education School System after 30 years of employment. Richard joined and served in the United States Army Reserves in 1957. He served in the 926 Engineer Combat Battalion as a construction foreman and supervisor. He was a Senior Instructor in the 3385th USAR School, training enlisted students in the nuclear, biological, and chemical career field. Richard ended his military career as the Command Sergeant Major of 1207th U S Army Hospital (100 bed) and retired with 33 1/2 years of service at the rank of Command Sergeant Major in 1991.

Richard leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Richette Brison-Harris of Madison, AL; two granddaughters, Tinia and Tawanda Harris of Madison, AL; one brother, Johnathan Brison of Pell City, AL; two sisters, Virginia Truitt and Evelyn H. Byrd of Columbus, GA; one uncle, Le’Roy Hunter of Tuskegee, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Edward Streeter and Jimmie L. Hunter, Jr. and one sister Lillye R. Herring.
