Sister Mary Frances Harris Abernathy was born on February 14, 1934, to the late Jim and Millie Harville Harris, Sr. in Clay, Alabama.
She entered into eternal rest at the age of 85, on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Fairhaven Rehabilitation Center, Birmingham.
Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Jim Harris, Jr., William Samuel Harris, John Edward Harris, Willie Mae Moore, Viola Thomas, Anthony Lawrence Harris and Raymond Harris.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Joy Baptist Church, Trussville.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. John Abernathy on February 6, 1954. This sixty-six year union was blessed with four children; one daughter and three sons.
Mary was a diligent worker in her church and community. As a member of First Baptist Church – Patrick City, she served as Deaconess, Church Secretary and Secretary of the Missionary Society.
She leaves to mourn: her husband, John Abernathy; daughter, Bernetta (Joe) Lockhart of Leeds; Travis (Kaunita) Abernathy of Leeds; Eric (Erin) of Dallas, Texas and Toney (Rhonda) Abernathy of Leeds; two sisters, Dorothy (William) Pace of Leeds, Reallor Harris of Columbus, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Lucille Abernathy of Leeds and Exie (Jerry) Bridges of Birmingham; eleven grandchildren; seven great grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
