Sis. Jessie Mae Hicks Reynolds closed her sweet little eyes Friday, 13, November 2020, resting peacefully at home to take her wings to be with the Lord. She was born on July 19, 1943, at University Hospital in Jefferson County, to the late Alberta Ladybird Anthony and Desi B. Davis. She was reared by the late Jessie Mae and Genie Miles during World War II.
Jessie attended Birmingham City Schools, Western Olin High School in the 1960's. God blessed her and Clyde Mallory with a beautiful baby girl, Deidra Russell. She was married to the late Albert Hicks, and her baby boy, Rev. Albert Hicks, Jr., was born. She later united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Otto Reynolds until his death. God saw fit to bless her once again with a granddaughter, Suga-Suga, Jywanna Nicole Hicks, who was devoted and unwavering in her love and care for her Granny.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and her strong faith did not waiver. She was a devoted member of the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Peace Baptist District Matrons, Teacher of Baptist Training Union, Sunday School member, and Sanctuary Choir member. She was also employed at Community Hospital until the hospital closed. She was also employed at St. Vincent's Hospital, where she started the first Black History program. Her last memorable days, she was walking with the Lord, praying, and reciting her favorite Bible verses.
