David Roderick Dowdell

David Roderick Dowdell was born October 1st 1963, to Mr. Moses Dowdell and Mrs. Eula Bell Dowdell. David was the youngest of 8 and the baby of a band of all brothers united and strong in brotherhood and family.

He accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and his faith never waivered throughout his life.  David was truly an angel among us who always greeted you with a hearty hello and a big smile. He loved life, valued his family, loved and was an active member of his church, and lived every day to the fullest. 

In the Bush Hills neighborhood where David spent his last years, he was a known and welcomed member of the community.  He could be seen walking the neighborhood, helping neighbors out with various tasks, or shaking a leg at the local gathering spot.  He was well received and loved by all in his close-knit family, those within his neighborhood of Bush Hills, and all within his church community.  He will be missed immensely and the family is at peace in knowing that heaven has finally given this earthly angel his heavenly wings. 

David was educated in the Birmingham City School System and graduated in special classes from Woodlawn High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Moses Dowdell and Eula Dowdell, and 5 of his 8 brothers:  Sonny Dowdell, Thomas Dowdell, Richard Dowdell, Moses Dowdell, and Eddie James Dowdell. 

Left to honor his memory and carry on his spirit are his caretakers, his older brother, General Dowdell, and his sister-in-law, Mary Dowdell, who loved and provided care for David for over 20 years.  He also leaves behind his brother, George Dowdell, a host of nieces and nephews, and other family members who connected to him and loved him dearly.
