Mr. Chester "Clyde" Strickland was born to the late Eldridge Strickland, Sr. and Sara B. Strickland on May 30, 1931, in the town of Opelika, Alabama. Clyde was one of five children born to this union.
Chester departed this life on October 12, 2020. He is survived by family and friends.
Chester confessed Christ at an early age and joined Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Leeds, Alabama, under the pastorship of Rev. Townsend and later under Rev. Curtis White as active pastor. Brother Strickland was a faithful and dedicated member to the Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed. Brother Strickland had a servants heart and dedicated his time, many talents and treasure to the video ministry as well as numerous church remodeling projects. He loved recording the services on his Camcorder with the old version VHS tapes. He would record weddings, parties, and church events with "NO CHARGE" because it was his passion.
Chester "Clyde" Strickland served in the United States Navy for four years.
While living in Newberg, New York, he worked at Gilmore Funeral Home as an assistant apprentice.
Chester "Clyde" Strickland later moved home to Alabama and found work at M & B Metal for a period of time, where he later retired.
Chester "Clyde" Strickland was a caregiver for his mother Sarah and his sister Margaret after their health failed. He also cared for others with "NO CHARGE".
His hobby was refurbishing and upholstering furniture. Clyde was always busy and on the go. He was a very quick and a fast walker.
Chester "Clyde" Strickland was joined in holy matrimony to Gracie B. Garrett. Chester was known as "Clyde" or "Uncle Clyde" to many that knew him.
Besides his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his son Gerald whom he loved dearly, his siblings Eldridge Strickland, Jr., Mary Wiggins, Margaret Campbell, and George Strickland, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife of 62 years of marriage: Gracie B. Garrett Strickland; Floyd "Dan" Allen, his wife Wilma and his son Daniel; sister-in-law: Mary J. Marion Strickland; caring friends and caregivers to Clyde: Rev. Gregory Moore, Cathy Moore, Raymond Barkley, Augusta Coleman and Marilyn Strickland Pate. He leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
