Bessie Montgomery Obituary

Ms. Bessie Mae Jenkins Montgomery was blessed with the gift of life on November 4, 1951. She was the fifth child of six, born to the late Rosa L. Jenkins, John R. Jenkins, Sr. 

She is preceded in death by two sisters the late Menthola (Frank) Smith, Rosie (Lorenza, Sr.) Eason and brother Horace Dixon. 

Sister Bessie Montgomery accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age. She joined and was baptized at Second Avenue Beulah Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev E.L. Chandler. She later joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she remained faithful until God called her home.

Sister Bessie attended W.A. Bell Elementary and Brighton High School, graduating in class of 1970. She attended Lawson State Community College completing the Nursing Assistant  Program. Sister Bessie was an employee at Zayre, South Gate Nursing Home, and she was also employed at Bristol Steel. Sister Bessie was a loving mother, sister and friend. She cherish her relationship with her grand and great grandchildren. She was outgoing and full life. She was kind and always willing to help others. She loved to dance and crack jokes. Bessie was always the same all of the time. She was truly one of kind. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile which could light up a room. On February 11, 2020, her beautiful smile grew dim she will be truly missed.

Bessie leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters: LaVanda Judkins (Birmingham, Alabama) and LaWanda Mason (Birmingham, Alabama); two sons: Harold Mason, Jr (Birmingham, Alabama) and Brandon Mason (Birmingham, Alabama); sister: Mary L. Polnett ( Birmingham, Alabama); brother: John (Barbara) Jenkins (Bessemer, Alabama); grandkids: Darcel D. Mason, John D. Mason, Olando Jackson, Jr., TaShara (Edward) Washington, Amiracle J. Judkins, Harold T. Mason, Darrell Judkins, Jr., Hailey Mason, Tyler Mason, Kalil Judkins, Keonte R. Chavers, Jermaine Mason, Micah A. Lawrence; great-grandkids: Khloe Mason, Trinity Poole, De'Shon Judkins, Braylen Judkins, Ashton D. Poole, Kamiya E. Mason, Ja'Miracle L. Kennedy, and Edward Washington, Jr.; and a host of niece and nephews; special friend: James Dennis.
