Mr. Walter (Pokey) Lee Owens was born August 29, 1942 in Birmingham, AL to Mr. & Mrs. George and Delia Mae Owens.
Walter was a graduate of A.H. Parker High School in 1960. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army.
Walter was united in Marriage to Ida Lee Chapman on April 16, 1965.
He was employed at Hayes International Air Craft where he did maintenance service on airplanes. He also worked at Mulga Coal Company where he worked as a Coal Miner.
For those who knew Walter loved him. Some of his close friends called him “Coach”. He was known to be very friendly and generous and would always give fatherly advice to the younger generation.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Owens, brother, Milous (Carl) Owens, son, Vincent Owens and mother Delia M. Owens.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife of 53 years Ida Lee Owens, one daughter Lawanda Owens Sharp, three sons, Jermaine Owens, Marcus (Tony) Peterson of Grand Rapids, MI and Cory Martin, three grandchildren: Bridget Owens, Justin Sharp and Olivia Chatman; two sisters: Cotelia Hill and Sharren Toney both of Birmingham, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very special and close friends.
