Walter Webster Cunningham was born on January 17, 1938, in Selma, Alabama, to the late Susie Lee Fikes and Chester Cunningham. He was educated in the Selma and Birmingham School Systems. He was united in holy matrimony to Ella Mae Stringer This union produced six children. He accepted Christ and was united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under Rev. W. J. Gilmore..

He loved his family and was loved by many. A hard, dependable worker who was employed at Dolly Madison, Hastings Seeds and McWane Cast Iron and Pipe, where he retired in October of 1986.

He is survived by his loving family; His Wife: Ella Cunningham; six children: Sharron (Whayman) Fairbanks, Walter C. Cunningham, Cynthia Cunningham, Gregory Cunningham, Sr., Kendrick Cunningham, and Maxie Cunningham; an adopted daughter: Alevia Lightfoot; special cousins: Cora Bell Phillips and Linda Provitt; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
