Rev. Jarrod Hayden Obituary

The Reverend Jarrod L. Hayden was born to John and Betty Hayden on February 24, 1970, in Birmingham, AL.  He was educated in the Birmingham City Public School System. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Liberty Church of God Cathedral in Warrior, Alabama under the leadership of Elder A. J. Johnson.

On July 28, 2001, he was united in holy matrimony with Tamekka Heard whom he affectionately referred to as “Chocolate Drop”.  To this union, one son was born.

Reverend Hayden joined the Twenty-Second Avenue Missionary Baptist Church of Birmingham, AL under the leadership of the late Reverend Wm. Gerald Edwards. It was there that he answered the call into the Gospel Ministry.  He later united with the Zion Hope Baptist Church of Birmingham, Alabama where he was ordained into the Gospel Ministry. He served there faithfully until his health began to fail.

Reverend Hayden was also affectionately known as the “Singing Preacher” because he always felt the need to belt out a hymn of praise regularly especially when he was watching his favorite college team, the Auburn Tigers.  Everyone with whom he encountered, whether they knew him or not, was aware that he was an avid supporter of the team because he loved to adorn his War Eagle paraphernalia.

Reverend Hayden mounted a long and courageous battle against Sarcoidosis and he kept the Faith to the very end; a faithful witness to the love and grace of God that sustained him through the years. Reverend Hayden encouraged others whether in his presence, talking to him on the phone or just by reading his Facebook posts. He kept others smiling and hopeful even when he was struggling and suffering. He showed others how to care and advocate for others.

On Friday, December 28, 2018, Reverend Hayden transitioned from this life to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends.

He leaves to cherish and carry on his legacy: a loving and devoted wife: Tamekka Hayden; one beloved son: Jeremiah Deron Hayden; parents, John and Betty Hayden; two brothers, Patrick (Theodora) Hayden and Brian Hayden,; mother-in-law, Sarah Heard Burton; father-in-law, Terry Burton; one brother-in-law, Tametrius Burton; one sister-in-law, Felicia Lee all of Birmingham, AL;  one special friend, Mrs. Temmico Coleman of Huntsville, AL and a host of family members and other friends.
