Pernell L. Purifoy was born on March 11, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Thomas Hale and Audrey Wagner Purifoy Hale. Pernell confessed Christ at an early age at St. Matthews Baptist Church of Docena, Alabama.
Pernell was educated in the Jefferson County School System, where he graduated from Ensley High School. After graduating High School, Pernell enlisted in the United States Army. He completed training in Fort Hood, Texas. Pernell served his country by going to Seoul, Korea and many other tours. Pernell received several Decoration Ribbon Awards along with the Sharpshooter Badge.
Pernell worked for Post Airgas for many years before he became disabled. His hobby was fishing. Pernell attended Lawson State Community College where he received a two year certificate in Carpentry, he then attended Culinary classes where his specialties were sweet potato pie and sour cream pound cake.
Later Pernell joined New Saint Mark AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Gloria Stutson, from there he became a member of Overflow Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Larry Davison and Pastor Cynthia Davison. Pernell departed this life on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.
Pernell is survived by his loving wife: Veranita E. Purifoy of Birmingham, AL; three daughters: La-Keisha King, Quintina Boyd (Robert) and Angel Hill all of Birmingham, AL; two sons: Jerry Hill and Stephon Hill both of Birmingham, AL; three sisters: Deborah Wagner of Birmingham, AL, Deloise Hite (Robert) of Indianapolis, IN and Delphia McCants of Birmingham, AL; three brothers: Theodore Purifoy (Jennifer), Daniel Purifoy (Teresa) and Rodney Purifoy (Annie) all of Birmingham, AL; ten grandchildren; one special uncle, Mr. Clarence Griffin of Detroit, MI and a host of other relatives and friends.
