Mary Alice Tate Paige was born on March 18, 1939, the only daughter of the late Deacon Frank & Tennie Mae Tate, in Greenville, Alabama.
When she was 2 years old, her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Under the leadership of Reverend Townsend, she joined Greater New Antioch on Church Street and accepted Christ at an early age. After the new church was built on 33rd Street North, she became a member of the senior choir, missionary board, and lovingly prepared food for the Youth & Young Adult Bible Study Class.
In 1956, she married Leroy Paige Sr. and from that union 8 children were born. Her true calling in life was the nurturing of children. She loved, cared, fed, and provided for an abundance of children. Everyone knew of the open door policy at the Bottom.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, two brothers, and her loving husband, Leroy Paige Sr. Mary Alice peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday May 13, 2019.
She leaves to cherish in her memory: three daughters: Cheryl (Michael) Pryor, Ruby Paige, and Marcyleen Paige, whom was also her caregiver; three sons: Leroy Paige Jr., Jerome (Voncester) Paige, and Wendell Paige, all of Birmingham, AL.; two brothers: Earnest (Cindy) Tate of Columbus, Ohio and Albert J. Tate Sr. of Birmingham, AL.; three brothers-in-law: Edward (Brunetta) Paige, Joe Paige, and Dennis Paige; four sisters-in-law: Roberta Paige, Catherine (Ronnie) Nelson, Dorothy Johnson, and Laura Mae Paige; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
