Ms. JoAnn Boykin Walker-Hubert started her journey on this earth in Fayette, Alabama, on August 21, 1940, to parents Mr. Whitman Walker and Mrs. Willie Mae Culp Walker. She was later on adopted by her mother's cousin Daisy and Willie Boykins of Bessemer, Alabama.
She received Christ at an early age and was a member of Old Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama.
She went on later in life to marry Lonnie Hurbert and within their union they had five children and a special adoption of two more children.
JoAnn worked for Children's Hospital for a little over 26 years and retired back in 2014. But, that didn't stop her duties. She also worked each day cooking and cleaning, which she happily enjoyed doing. But, now her labor has ended. Her eternal life begins and she's in the presence of the Good Lord.
In January 2018, she became very ill and called on the Lord for strength and guidance. She battled with these issues as long as she could but it was stronger than her in the end.
On June 22, 2018, at 9:38 AM, she no longer had to fight, struggle, nor suffer anymore.
She leaves her cherishing, wonderful memories to her sons: Grady, Andre, and Brandon Hurbert, all of Birmingham, Alabama; daughters: Lisa Jenkins, Arlene, Aretha, and Chemise Hurbert, all of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Clara and Lynda Boykins of Bessemer, Alabama; one aunt and two uncles of Muskegon, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends.
