Jimmie Mack Johnson, Sr. was born on July 3, 1943, to the late Archie and Florence Jacobs Johnson in Evergreen, Alabama.
He received his early education in Evergreen. After finishing high school, he joined the United States Army. While in the Army he met and married Joan Renee on March 12, 1966, and they began their lives together. They were inseparable: their love for each other was a delight through to the very end.
Jimmie served in the Army for twelve years . He served two years in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Campaign Medal Device, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, 30 S Bars Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14).
After serving his country, he returned to Birmingham, Alabama, and worked for Masonry Arts for over 60 years. He attended Southern Junior College with a Social Degree. He later attended Alabama Christian College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. After retiring, he went back to work at Johnson Kreis Construction until his health failed.
He gave his life to the Lord on February 13, 1996, and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost under Mother Lucy Washington.
Jimmie departed this life on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the VA Hospital at 6:25 AM.
He will be cherished by endearing family. His precious memories will remain in the heart of his loving wife: Joan Renee Johnson; his four children: Jimmie Mack (Angela) Johnson, Jr., Jarrett Maurice (Alice) Johnson, Jarriel Marvin (Jennifer) Johnson and Vicki Johnson (Ricky) Mighty; his eleven grandchildren: Jimmie Mack Johnson, III, Jacob Michale Johnson, Jordyn McDade Johnson, Josie Mary Johnson, Jossalyn Makenzie, Jenna Mackinleigh, Jaden Malik Johnson, Eboni R. Mighty, Alexia M. Mighty, Messiah Millin, Christopher Trent Revees Johnson; sisters: Priscilla Ann Savery and Donnie Elaine Johnson, Pensacola; sisters-in-law: Hazel Johnson, Pensacola, Florida, Vivian Alexander, Hephzibah, Georgia, Edna Russell, Toni Wilson, Delphia Green and Pauline Hawkins, Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law: Paul Wilson, Eugene Alexander, Hephzibah, Georgia, Kennneth Ray and Frank Green, Denver, Colorado, and Jay Johnson, San Diego, California; aunts: Fannie Jacobs Higgins, Brooklyn, New York and Alma Packer, Detroit, Michigan; uncle: L. H. DeGrate, Waco, Texas; a very special Godfather: Joe Clark, Pensacola, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
