Mr. Frank Leon Matthews, Jr. was born August 31, 1978, on his great-grandmother’s birthday, (the late Mary Bell Spidell). Leon was born at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Leon lived throughout Europe from kindergarten through middle school. Learning to travel with his backpack, Leon completed high school at Ft. Bragg, NC, at 71st High School. Leon was active in ROTC. He was also active Army Reserve and completed Basic Training in South Carolina. Leon obtained several degrees, the most prestigious was from the University of Alabama. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Social Work. He also earned Associate Degrees in Communication and Sociology form Lawson State Community College.
Leon was active in the lives of others and was an organ donor, (PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING AN ORGAN DONOR. TOGETHER WE STAND AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE. DIVIDED, WE WILL FALL AND THE DIFFERENCE WE COULD HAVE MADE WILL NEVER BE. Corinthians 12:12).
Frank was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel in 2011. He had a keen eye and ears for broadcasting, co-pioneering the Audio/Video Ministry of the Trinity Baptist Church of Birmingham, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor John E. King, Jr.
Leon was involved with several community organizations in both Alabama and Georgia. He was a member of Americorps at the YWCA, an organization whose purpose is to engage adults in public service work with a goal of helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. He was a member of Serving With One Roof , an Organization that helped the homeless community. And, he was a member of Cardboard Connect which educated youth on homelessness.
