Mrs. Deborah J. (Moton) Simmons was born September 24, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the union of Joseph Moton and Louise Moton. At an early age she became a member of the choir at East End Baptist Church (family church). There she gave her life to Christ and continued the walk throughout her life.
She grew up on Historic Southside, currently UAB, and attended Historic Cameron-Lane School Elementary School and Historic Samuel Ullman High School. She continued her education at Miles College in Early Childhood Education. There she joined a sorority. She participated in many activities in her college life. In her spare time she modeled for JET magazine and held many titles in Miles College Homecoming courts. Above all, her passion was to serve those in need and help the less fortunate. Upon completion of college she served as a teacher to special needs students and continued teaching until retirement. She was a great teacher to all and touched many lives with love, giving and compassion.
She united in marriage with Erskine Simmons on February 11, 1977, and became the mother of three beautiful children, Jeremy Israel Moton- Simmons, Jonathan Isaac Moton- Simmons, and Ersklynn Nicole Moton-Simmons.
At age 66, she made her transition on January 6, 2019, in Homewood, Alabama.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Erskine Howard Simmons; three children, Jeremy Israel Moton- Simmons, Jonathan Isaac Moton- Simmons, and Ersklynn Nicole Moton-Simmons; grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Moton- Poellnitz; one sister, Carole Moton. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
