Mr. Clarence Mayes II was born to the late Mr. Clarence and Martha Mayes on December 15, 1952, in Birmingham, Al. He was a faithful member of New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Dolomite, Alabama, under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Edwards Sr. He served faithfully as the vice president of the number two usher board and in other areas of the ministry as needed, until his health began to fail him.
Clarence attended the Birmingham Public School System at Lewis Elementary and G.W. Carver High School. After high school, He worked at Norala Seed Company. He later attended USA Truck driving school. He was a jack of all trades, especially carpeting. If you name it, he could build it or fix it. He enjoyed family, fishing, and football (especially Alabama, Roll Tide!!!).
Clarence was preceded in death by two sons, Terrance Mayes and Willie Mayes (Birmingham, Al) and five brothers, Orlando Mayes (Birmingham, Al) Clifford Wilks, Johnny Wilks, Rufus Wilks & Clarence Mayes IIII (Chicago, IL).
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving step-mother Henrietta Mayes (Chicago, IL); five children, Cedric (Sequilla) Mayes of Birmingham, Al, Clarence (Letia) Lewis of San Diego CA, Cameka (Reginald) Dew, Kenyotta Mayes, and Qoamil Wright, all of Birmingham, AL; one brother Roosevelt (Carolyn) Taylor, five sisters Leslie (Herman) Patterson, of Birmingham, Alabama, Pamela Berry, Edna (Greg) Wilks, Angela Wilks, and Melinda (Earnest) Sheppard all of Chicago, IL; Sister-in-law Patricia Mayes of Birmingham, Al, three step-children Justin, Malachi, and Tamil Wright; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, cousins, friends, and a loving church family.
