Charlie Bailey Obituary

Mrs. Charlie B. Jumper Bailey was born March 1, 1923 in Girard, Alabama to the union of Willie Jumper and Clara Whitehead.  At an   early age she became a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church and continued that membership throughout her life.

She was a product of the Birmingham Public School System and graduated from A.H. Parker High School.  She continued her education at The Career Institute of New York  City in Nursing. She was employed with Madison Avenue Hospital in New York as a  Nurse until retirement.
She united in marriage with Warnie Humphrey on July 11, 1941 and  became the Mother of two sons, Warnie Humphrey, Jr. and Solomon Humphrey. Later in life she married Jack Bailey of New York City.
She was devoted to her Mother (Sister). She worked untiringly to help support her family and others and never complained. All that the descendents of Clara Whitehead have become is due to her love, compassion, sacrifices and willingness to give.  Each of us here today could not have succeeded without her foundational support. A debt    family members can never repay, but can pass it on through the family’s legacy of service—sharing and caring.

At age 95, she made her transition December 31, 2018 at 9:15 p.m. in Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Jumper and Clara Whitehead; one son, Solomon Humphrey; one brother, Willie Jumper, Jr.; two sisters, Fannie Ciers and Doris Foster.

Celebrating and rejoicing in her new life of service are: son, Warnie Humphrey, Jr.; sister, Dr. Bessie S. Smith (Howard) of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Kathryn H. Williams of St. Paul Minnesota and Angelia Humphrey; four grandsons, Warnie Humphrey, III, Curtis Humphrey and Solomon Humphrey of New York City, and Solomon Alexander; six great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and a host of   nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
