Mr. Benjamin Croom, Sr. was born to the late Rev. J. W. Croom, Sr., and Mrs. Junie Cook Croom. He entered into this life on April 15, 1934, in Greensboro, Alabama. It was there that he accepted Christ as his savior which was manifested through his baptism at the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.
After moving to Birmingham, he cast his membership with Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his father, Rev. J. W. Croom, Sr. He worked for Stein Men’s Clothing Store, Litcher’s Furniture Store, and Health South.
Tex, as he is so affectionately called, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 3:05 AM.
He was preceded into eternal rest by three children, Angela D. Smith, Lyquitta Abrams, and Benjamin Croom, Jr., three brothers John L. Croom, Charles E. Croom, Sr., Isaac T. Croom and one sister Mary T. Petty.
He leaves to treasure his memories, two daughters: Pamela D. Ford and Carrette (Fredrick) Burrell; eleven (11) grandchildren; fifteen (15) great-grandchildren; one brother: Rev. J. W. Croom, Jr.; two sisters: Annie Hall of Chicago, IL and Lucy (James) Boyd; sister-in-law: Pearlie M. Croom; daughter-in-law: Mary Croom; son-in-law: Ray Abrams; loving niece: Mary E. Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his adoring Mt. Hebron Baptist Church family.
