Barbara Tompkins Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Jean Adkins Tompkins was born January 9, 1940, to James and Minnie Adkins in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by both parents, one sister Lola Jones, one son Derrick Adkins.

She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Saint John Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend J. C. Crosby. She has been a member of St. John, now known as Greater St. John Missionary Baptist for more than 60 years. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord, serving on Usher Board, attending Sunday School and Bible Study. She was a graduate of the Birmingham Public School System and later attended Booker T. Washington College.

She joined in holy matrimony to Willie N.Tompkins and as a result of this union, they were blessed with seven children.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, she was called home to rest in the arms of Heavenly Father.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Karen Green (Edmond), Karol "Tina" Patterson (Calvin), Birmingham, Alabama, Karla Tompkins, Athens, Alabama, and KaSandra Tompkins, Birmingham, Alabama; three sons: Theron Tompkins, James Tompkins (Cynthia) and Reuben Tompkins (Angelita), all of Birmingham, Alabama; four sisters-in-law: Stella Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia, Carrie Lee Davis, Dallas, Texas, Mollie Witt, Birmingham, Alabama and Naomi Collier, Germany; one brother-in-law: Jimmy Tompkins, Birmingham, Alabama; a Special cousin: Marion Phillips, Birmingham, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
