Martha Cox Harris was born on November 26, 1939, to Rev. Nelson and Susie Cox, in Faunsdale, Alabama. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age. She later joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. W. Billups in Birmingham, Alabama.
She graduated from Ullman High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She furthered her education at Lawson State Community College to pursue her Nursing Degree as a LPN. She worked at Carraway Hospital. Afterwards, she started working in Private Home Health Care with the elderly. She was a strong minded, hard working woman.
Martha met and married Charles Harris and to this union three children were born, Charlie Harris, Christopher Harris, and Roderick Harris. She later divorced and proceeded to live a happy and successful life. She met, fell in love and engaged in a common law union with William Melton until his death. Martha was a very devoted Christian woman. She was very outspoken, loving and compassionate. She loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Christopher Harris, grandsons Daviyon A. Monman and Javon Clancy.
She leaves to cherish her memories, Two Sons: Charlie Harris and Roderick Harris, both of Birmingham, Alabama; Granddaughters: devoted Desia (James) Brown, and Wylissa (Marcus) Williams; Grandsons: Torez Goodgame, and Raphal (RaShun) Pharris, all from Birmingham, Alabama; Sixteen Great-grandchildren and Two Great Great-grandchildren; Five Brothers: Samuel (Viola) Cox, Ernest (Roxann) Cox, Issac (Altha) Cox and Richard (Sylvia) Cox, all of Birmingham, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
