 Mr. Clem Jelks, Jr. was born in Glencoe, Alabama on January 7, 1943, to the proud parents of the late Clem and ( late Sally Brown) Jelks Sr. Clem expired this life February 11, 2018, in exchange for eternal rest. Growing up with eight siblings life was full of fun and laughter. Embracing the new life as Clem are: Labretia Jelks Nelson, Sarah Jelks Henry, Bessie, Josephine, Charles, Dan, Jackie Jelks.

Clem completed his education at Carver High School, graduating the class of 1961. At the age of 24 Clem joined the United States Army serving our country in the Vietnam war. His services begin in the year 1967 through 1973. After returning from the services he enlisted in the United States Reserved for 2 additional years. 

At an early age he confessed Christ at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Glencoe Alabama. Later in his years he united with Antioch Baptist Church under, Pastor T. L. Lewis. In the year 1986 he united with United Christian Church, Inc. where he served faithfully until his transition to glory.  His quality of life was exemplified through a faithful and loyal member of the Community. Clem not only committed his life to Christ but to his spiritual parents Apostle Maurice K. (Lady Brenda) Wright whom he love dearly. There were many capacities that he served: Deacons Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Ministry of Encouragement, Men’s Ministry, Transportation Services, Visitation. He enjoyed demonstrating the love of Christ to others through giving. 

On January 24, 1981, he married the love of his life and best friend Dorothy Ann Robinson Jelks. Clem was a loving father to five wonderful children: Cynthia (Johnny) Leach, Stanado Brown, Kenneth (Michelle) Jelks, Stacy (Felisha) Jelks and Jason (Tomekia) Jelks. Big Daddy had 13 grand children: Jayvian Jelks, Jacob Leach, Coryell Elston, Rashad, Kwasaan, Mijul, Rayquan Jelks, Ciaira Turner, Stacy Jr.,Malik Jelks, Jaylynn and Taylor Wilson, Shuntavious Ruffin. 5 great grand children: Torrain, Braylon, Breanna, Javarri, Damarion, Johnny Kayu One sister Beulah Lawrence, Sister in laws: Doris Jelks, Sallie Lett, Brother in laws: Dorsey L. (Gladean) Robinson Jr., Larry (Gail) Robinson, Gary (Ophelia) Robinson, Special sister Catherean “Teddy” (William) Ethridge and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. God children: Urick Wright, Andrew and the late Andreana Fleming and Simeon Avery.

Working was always a strong ethic for Clem. He retired after 30 years of service at Alabama Power Company. He employed jobs at various locations associated with transportation, Woods Transportation Services, Quality of Life Mobile Unit Driver. He currently served as Bailiff for the City of Attalla.

Clem has a heart of gold. His delight was having teachable moments, encouraging others to commit there lives to Christ, walk in integrity and embrace a Godly character. Clem believed in committing yours ways unto the Lord and he will establish you Proverbs 16:3. More than anything he cherish times shared with his Baby Dot, children and grand children.
